What makes me qualified to recommend construction takeoff programs / software
I have been estimating for 15+ years, trained over 100 estimators personally and have knowledge of estimating all architectural, MEP and structural trades. I have used over 20 different takeoff / estimating software.
Best general purpose takeoff software in 2026
Its a fight between Planswift, On Screen takeoff and Bluebeam. If you must have a cloud based program then Stack is the most popular.
All the above are popular and have all the basic features plus some advanced features.
Bluebeam is simplest and most affordable software. Planswift and OST (On Screen takeoff) have more features, are more customizable and more expensive.
OST is great for big multifamily projects as it can handle very large takeoffs without slowing down or lagging. It is also better at combining takeoff from multiple estimators into a single file. Or in other words it is the best if you want multiple estimators to work on the same project outside of cloud based software.

Planswift is the best at getting custom template and calculations done though you will need to hire an expert to do it. But its typically a one time cost. Planswift is also a bit better for multi screen use than the other two.
